The tropical fruit meeting began with a guest speaker who had grown a pineapple from the top of one she had bought from the grocery store. She kept a photo album of the two years it took to reap the fruit. Very interesting to watch the slow process. Then the mom in charge demonstrated to us how to cut fresh pineapple correctly as well as papaya, mango, starfruits, etc. Every time a fruit was cut a club member was asked to distribute it amongst (fruit) cups that we enjoyed eating at the end of the meeting. These cups turned into natural works of art as each differently colored fruit was added.
We learned how to crack a coconut and even enjoyed a sip of the coconut milk. Did you know you can lightly write a secret message on a banana with a toothpick and then twenty minutes later it will appear? It was amazing to watch a clementine turn into a votive candle by using the white middle as the wick and adding olive oil. Our hostess also made chocolate banana bread and coconut cookies to accompany the fruit cups. We all left feeling healthy and inspired to use God’s creation in creative ways.
