Dinosaur Fun

The Dinosaurs badge was taught to a group of kindergarten children from the Biblical Creation viewpoint.  Later in the year, the same unit was taught to the six and seven-year-old children.

1st Class
*  Class starts with jungle CD playing in the background.
*  We read several books about dinosaurs to familiarize the kids with dinosaurs.
*  Talk about the different sizes of dinosaurs.
*  Go outside with a large tape measure and actually take measurements to see their enormous size up close (and in some cases . . . how small).
*  Color  dinosaur page(s).
*  Create a collage of dinosaurs.
*  Use lots of “toy” dinosaurs to review their names.
*  Play time with dinosaurs on Dino Island.

2nd Class
*  Class starts with jungle CD playing in the background
*  We read several books about dinosaurs
*  Talk about fossils.  Look at real fossils that I have brought from home.
*  Create their own fossils with air dry clay to take home.
*  Talk about the Stegosaurus.
*  Use child’s hand to create their own drawing of a Stegosaurus.
*  Color dinosaur page.
*  Talk about Meat Eaters and Plant Eaters.
*  Play a Relay Game to find the correct dinosaur with the piece of Meat or the Plant.
*  Play time with dinosaurs on Dino Island.

3rd Class
*  Class starts with jungle CD playing in the background.
*  We read several books, review pictures, etc.
*  Talk about fossils.
*  Skeleton Book (from home), bring Skeleton from home.
*  Create a “fossil dinosaur” poster with Popsicle sticks and toothpicks.
*  Color dinosaur picture.
*  Blindfold child, have them reach in the bag, and answer a question about the dinosaur.
*  Play time with dinosaurs on Dino Island.

****(If time permits)  Also, I have felt for a dinosaur scene.   Child can create their own felt story board.
